Pipe Bowl, Archaic Period (#8308)
A wonderful excavated pipe bowl with a human effigy found prior to 1966 in Polk County MN near the town of Fertile, which is in the Northwestern part of the state. Black stone was used in the construction. The small black spots on the surface we believe to be iron deposits. See file.

Standing Rock Northern (Plains) Effigy Pipe c. 19th century
A very fine standing rock effigy pipe and bowl. A turtle, buffalo, ram and beaver are relief carved into the ash wood stem. Pewter inlaid bowl in form of otter or beaver.
