San Ildefonso Black on Red Jar, c. 1890 (#7827)
Created by Maximiliana (Anna) Montoya Martinez (b. 1885- d. 1955), sister of Maria Martinez. This is a very fine classic San Ildefonso jar with concave base and flaring shoulder. Very nicely painted top portion in a floral design, painted by Anna's husband, Crescencio Montoya (b. 1879- d. 1918). Old museum collection number on base.

Decorated with the Zia Bird and flowers. The bottom of the vessel has a light cream slip indicative of the 1920's or before. There are water mineral deposits on the interior and exterior. Note the distinctive indentation on the base of the olla.
