A magnificent Nez Perce pony beaded dress on deer hide. Multi-colored beadwork in white, cobalt blue, green and red. Hemp and sinew sewn. Note: The green and red beads were first introduced to the Nez Perce Columbia River Native Americans on the Lewis & Clark expedition (1804-06).

Sioux Beaded Dress, c.1880 (#9164)
Fully beaded open-armed bodice, showing cruciform devices and bands of small crosses about the perimeter and down the shoulders, a series of circular shell pendants attached below the waist on both sides, fringe trim on the arms, side seams and bottom hem.

Cheyenne War Shirt, c. 1870 (#9243)
Native tanned hide with traces of green paint, in a "poncho" style. The shirt has panels of buffalo hide fully beaded with a background of light blue beads and bear claw designs in red, greasy yellow, pink and cobalt running down the length of both sleeves. The front and back triangle yokes have fringe and beaded bars of pink, yellow and dark blue sewn on brown and red wool trade cloth. 16" long fringe runs down from the sleeves, and at the shoulders are orange dyed horsehair drops. Self hide fringe trims the bottom length of the shirt.
